Scratchpad

What is the Scratchpad?

The Scratchpad is the place to go to monitor the final fixture output, and to quickly set some temporary values. Values set here will override values set anywhere else in the app. Need a fixture to be pink at 100% right now? The Scratchpad is the place to go.

List and Grid Views

The fixtures in a project can be displayed one of two ways: in the expanded list view, or in the more compact grid view. To change views, tap the three dots in the top right-hand corner of the Scratchpad.

Selection and Deselection

There are three ways to select a fixture. Taping anywhere on a fixture tile (except the icon or the Popover Controls button) selects individual fixtures. Tapping again deselects a fixture. Multiple fixtures can be selected or deselected this way, one at a time.

Fixtures can also be selected all at once using the ‘Select All’ button on the action bar. If at least one fixture is already selected, this will be a ‘Deselect All’ button instead.

Lastly, fixtures can be selected using Tags, which are covered in the Tags article.

Focused Fixture

When selecting fixtures, the fixture selected most recently becomes the Focused Fixture and receives a slightly brighter yellow highlight. The values displayed on the Control Panel are always the values of the Focused Fixture. Fixtures selected at the same time can initially have different sets of values, so it’s important to be aware of which fixture is focused. To focus a fixture that has already been selected, tap the desired fixture twice to deselect and then reselect the fixture. This fixture is now the most recent selection and has been promoted to the Focused Fixture.

More information about the Control Panel can be found in the Control Panel article.

Changing Values

Fixture values can be changed either by using the Popover Controls for quick control of the color and intensity of a single fixture, or by opening the Control Panel for more detailed control of one or more fixtures.

Popover Controls

The Popover Controls can be accessed by pressing the Popover Controls button on a fixture. These controls can quickly set color and intensity values on an individual fixture using sliders.

Popover Controls only ever control a single fixture at a time, even when multiple fixtures are selected. This is a convenient way to quickly change a fixture’s intensity without having to first deselect the other fixtures that were being adjusted.

Control Panel

The Control Panel is used to change values for all selected fixtures at the same time, and is where values are set for capabilities beyond intensity and color. To open the Control Panel, either tap the ‘Control Panel’ button in the Action Bar, or tap the Control Panel icon in the top right corner of the Scratchpad. More information about the Control Panel can be found in the Control Panel article.

Manual Values

Values set on the Scratchpad override values set within Looks. If at least one Look has been created in the LookBook, a Manual badge will appear on fixtures in the Scratchpad to indicate that values set on the Scratchpad are in control. However, Manual badges for a fixture are applied on a per-capability basis. For example, a Manual intensity can be applied to a fixture while its color remains controlled by a Look. Manual badges appear next to adjusted capabilities within the Fixture tab and Misc tab as well.

Color is treated as a single capability for the purpose of determining the Manual state. A single adjustment to either x, y, color temperature, hue, or saturation will apply a Manual badge to all of a fixture’s capabilities controlled by the Slyyd color engine.

To allow the LookBook to take control of a fixture’s values, or to return a fixture to its default values, the Manual values in the Scratchpad need to be cleared. To do this, select any number of fixtures and then press the ‘Clear’ button in the Action Bar. A choice of Intensity, Color, More, Fixture, or All must be made. Once made, Manual values in that section will be cleared, and control or that section will return to any active Looks (or back to default values if a fixture isn’t present in any active Looks). If Manual values do not exist for a specific section in the current selection, that choice will be disabled. This can be used as a quick way to see what types of manual values have been set for a fixture without opening the Control Panel. For more information on Looks, visit the LookBook article.

Current Values

The Scratchpad always shows the current values being output by Slyyd. If a fixture is being controlled by a Look, those values are shown on the Scratchpad. If a fixture is being controlled by multiple Looks, the result of those Looks mixing together is shown on the Scratchpad. If a fixture has Manual values overriding the Look values, the Manual values will be displayed instead. When editing fixture values in a Look, it is not always clear what the current fixture output will be. Returning to the Scratchpad will always display the final result of what is being sent to fixtures.
